Instrumental during Worship

It was a Sunday morning in late January 2006. The church had just gone through a transition of sorts and I was preparing to step up to the keyboard to lead the congregation in worship. This particular occasion would mark my first time standing alone as the leader trying to fill the gaping void of those who had walked away. It was an odd experience to say the least. As I readied myself, our Pastor’s wife came to the front to open the service. She began to share a Word and a revelation from the Lord. She began by describing a picture of me standing alone at the keyboard to lead. As this vision unfolded, the picture quickly transitioned to the point that I was no longer visible in the image. It was at this point that the Lord spoke to her these words:
And then there was ONE…………..
What a revelation! A flood of emotion overwhelmed me as I understood in a far deeper way the true heart of worship. Being a disciple of Jesus is truely all about the ONE, the ONE who stands alone, above every power of heaven and earth. He stands as the ONE who alone can save, heal and deliver, the great redeemer. We must come to the place where there is only ONE. Our attitudes our ideas, our pride, our ambitions, our desires, our callings and our giftings all must disappear so that there is only ONE.
And then there was ONE…………..
We have perfected elaborate and complex multimedia presentations but have not perfected praise. We have produced beautiful, moving and compelling musical and dramatic events and conferences yet the church has failed to produce the sound that causes heaven to come to its feet and listen. We have sung songs that have inspired our flesh to do better and to try harder but have not learned to yield more to Holy Spirit and allow divine transformation. Technology has replaced true worship and the anointing has been shoved aside in favor of the arm of flesh. When will there only be ONE?
Two is one too many and a house divided against itself can not stand. If there is still more than ONE in our lives our hearts are divided and we will not stand. In the words of Matt Redman’s’ song ‘Heart of Worship’,
I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You, Jesus.
My prayer for you is that you would find the place where He is the ONE. Yield your life to the giver of life. Yield your heart, mind, soul and strength.
The ONE who made the heavens
The ONE who is pure, holy, and righteous,
The ONE who is powerful,
The ONE who reigns and rules in the affairs of earth
The One who deserves the highest, the holiest, the very best
The ONE who fills, who heals, who delivers and who saves.
The ONE who comforts and who draws
The one who woos and forgives,
The Lover of my soul, the Mighty God.
Let Him be the ONE!
And then there was ONE……………….
