Free Gift

Hope began to fade.
All paths had ended,
Upon my grave I lay.
My heart was sin-sick,
And nigh unto death.
It was crushed and broken,
With no place to rest.
In one last attempt,
I rose with faltering step.
Making my way to an altar,
Was all I had left.
I flung myself before it,
And uttered a breathless cry,
“God can you help me?
I don’t want to die.”
His gaze turned upon me;
Love reflected in His eyes.
My body wracked with pain,
I began to cry.
He spoke a gentle word,
And said, “Child, just trust.
My way is not easy,
But what I do, I must.”
God reached down His hand,
And opened up my heart;
Laying it wide open,
He tore it all apart.
He probed its hidden part,
With a swift, surgeon’s hand.
Every move had great purpose,
A sure and definite plan.
He found all that was wrong,
And transfused me with His blood.
Life, now flowing freely,
I was engulfed in His love.
His name is Jesus
The lover of my soul.
Salvation came that day,
As He made me whole!
The Free Gift of Life,
I clutched to my breast.
I willingly gave up all,
To have this, God’s best!
His Son, My friend!
Who can understand?
Why God would reach so low,
For a common, lowly man.
I am one among many,
Who have found their way,
Jesus took my darkness,
And turned it into day.
He awaits you now,
What will you do?
Run, while there is time.
He’ll make your heart anew.
He’ll take the broken pieces,
Into His gentle hands,
And lovingly repair them
As a part of His awesome plan.
You will only wonder,
And marvel at the sight,
Of the brand new person,
Who now reflects His light.
“Is it me?” you say,
With wonder in your eyes.
As you hold the gift of life, A treasured prize!
